The first Genetic Centre
in the Baltic States and Northern Europe
In 2014, the first Genetic Centre in the Baltic States and Northern Europe was opened in Latvia with a modern equipped laboratory and wide possibilities to carry out in-depth genetic examinations. Today, we keep the leading position and develop our specialization in the following fields:
– Molecular genetic examination;
– Exome sequencing;
– Karyotyping;
– Preimplantation genetic testing of embryos at the chromosomal and gene level (PGT-A, PGT-M, PGT-SR);
– Lifestyle genetic tests – Viva Genomics.
We are the leaders in the introducing of various innovative technologies, and all the services that are listed in our product range are carried out on-site in our laboratory, and for each analysis you will receive a clear explanation and advice. For some tests, state funding is available.
Genetic tests
Genetic consultations
Geneticists Dr. Liene Korneeva and Dr. Ieva Grinfelde provide Genetic consultations.
A consultation with a geneticist is the first step in the diagnosis of genetic and hereditary diseases, when the necessary molecular-genetic, cytogenetic, biochemical laboratory examinations are determined. The geneticist also provides the correct interpretation of the genetic testing results.
Genetic testing
Our specialization and genetic testing have been developed in the following directions:
- Molecular genetic examination;
- Exome sequencing;
- Karyotyping;
- Preimplantation genetic testing of embryos at the chromosomal and gene level (PGT-A, PGT-M, PGT-SR);
- Lifestyle genetic tests – Viva Genomics.
PGT-A/ PGT-M
PGT-A and PGT-M in Latvia are carried out only in our Genetic Centre.
PGT-A is a special research method that increases the chances of pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby. The PGT-A method allows to examine a 5-Day embryo, detecting the potential for its further development, and makes it possible to choose an embryo with a normal set of chromosomes for transfer into the uterine cavity.
PGT-M analysis allows to confirm or exclude the diagnosis of a previously known monogenic disease in 5-Day embryos, to select viable embryos and to ensure the birth of a healthy child.
Oncology
The Genetics Centre provides patients with the opportunity to carry out genetic tests both to predict the inheritance of a specific oncological disease and to exclude the most common mutations in completely healthy people. The Genetics Centre also offers post-test genetic counseling if additional questions arise about the risks of hereditary tumours and family genetic counseling is required.
We suggest tests to be carried out quickly to determine the diagnosis and risk of the disease at an early stage. Early cancer diagnosis is very important to improve treatment outcomes and survival.
Viva Genomic
It is possible to carry out genetic DNA tests in Latvia now that will help you better understand yourself and determine the most suitable lifestyle!
Your genes play a very important role in the functioning of the mind and body. Changes in genes in combination with environmental factors can have a large impact on appearance, behaviour and health in general. Our DNA tests provide information to help you make the right decisions in different fields of your life.
The following tests are available:
- Skin Diagnostic DNA Test
- Metabolism DNA Test
- Vitamins metabolism DNA Test
- Sports achievements DNA test
- Mental health DNA test
Genetic Centre REFERRAL
We cooperate with the Central Laboratory, and you can pass most of our tests at any branch of the Central Laboratory throughout Latvia.
You can show the Genetic Centre referral to your doctor or use it if you want to take one of our tests by yourself.
What our doctors and patients say
“About 90% of pregnancies are occurred spontaneously. And it is happiness when the pregnancy goes smoothly and results a healthy baby. Despite the couple’s belief that the pregnancy was planned, the required amount of the previous planned examination of the couple is often ignored!”
“Genetic testing when planning pregnancy to assess the risks of hereditary diseases in the family and the birth of a healthy baby – this is must do!
Oncology is a very broad field of medicine. However, all oncological diseases can be divided into congenital (or genetically determined) and acquired. Hereditary oncology ranges from 5 to 30%, depending on the location [..] Oncologists work at the forefront of medicine and today can offer treatment methods that were not possible five years ago.”
“Consultation with a geneticist is the first stage in the diagnosis of genetic and hereditary diseases, when the necessary laboratory tests are determined. A geneticist also provides the correct interpretation of the results of genetic testing. One of the fields of our Genetic Centre’s work is the diagnosis of orphan (rare) diseases.”
